Return Policy for Books and Music Scores

HARRASSOWITZ accepts returns for the following:

 

Damaged or defective materials supplied by HARRASSOWITZ, or materials supplied in error

Materials sent on the approval plan that have been rejected by the library

Damaged or Defective materials and materials sent in error: Materials that have arrived damaged or been found to be defective may not need to be returned.  Please first write to service@harrassowitz.de including details of the damage or defect.  HARRASSOWITZ will contact the publisher and notify the library if the full item or a part needs to be returned in order to receive a replacement.  Please also contact HARRASSOWITZ to inquire if material sent in error needs to be returned for credit.

Book Approval and Music Approval Returns Only:  Please use the Book Approval Return Memorandum or the Music Approval Return Memorandum, found on the HARRASSOWITZ website, to return items. The responses to the form will guide HARRASSOWITZ staff in adjusting the approval plan to avoid future returns. The returns should be processed within 3 months of the invoice date and the items must be received by HARRASSOWITZ in a resalable and unmarked condition. 

All other returns: Permission to return an item must be requested first by writing to: service@harrassowitz.de.  If permission for return is approved, the return shipment must include a copy of the Book Return Memorandum or the Music Scores Return Memorandum plus a copy of the actual invoice. 

Any title costing less than USD 30.00 may not need to be returned, since the cost incurred for either party exceeds the price of the item. Notification sent to service@harrassowitz.de in such circumstances may suffice to issue the appropriate credit.  The library will be notified if the material still needs to be returned.

HARRASSOWITZ does not accept returns for the following:

materials supplied more than 90 days prior to requested return (unless defective)

processed materials

materials sent on an active standing order

NOTE: If a standing order is cancelled, volumes just supplied or in transit must be accepted.

out-of-print material supplied as a result of a search request from the library

non-print items (unless defective)

materials ordered in error by the library*

grey literature and non-trade publications*

*For items ordered in error by the library and grey literature and non-trade publications, permission may be granted to return at HARRASSOWITZ’ discretion.  Please email service@harrassowitz.de to receive permission to return.  If authorization is granted, the item must be returned with a copy of the invoice plus the appropriate return form, Online Forms.
