This variorum edition contains 15,000 letters of which approximately 5% are still unprinted and more than 2,000 letters which are for the first time published on the basis of the original manuscripts. Besides offering an updated version edited according to contemporary principles, the publisher’s aim is to present an all-embracing commentary of Goethe’s letters.
