At the beginning of the 20th century Henry van de Velde arrived on the scene of the European art world. The Belgian painter, architect and interior designer disregarded the conventional differences between ‘art’ and ‘craft’, instead following the idea of the Gesamtkunstwerk and hence producing design for practically every area of life, from the construction of the house and the design of the room to clothing, jewelry and everyday objects like furniture and household articles.
Interior Design & Decorative Arts is a catalogue addressing researchers, collectors and dealers that includes all of Van de Velde’s documented works in lightning, jewelry, tableware, cutlery, textiles, ceramics, furniture and interior design. The catalogue, a project of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, is planned to be completed in 2013 and aims to illustrate Henry van de Velde’s significance for modernism in all of these art forms.
