Die Akten des Kaiserlichen Reichshofrats:

Edited by Akademie der Wissenschaften Göttingen in collaboration with Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften and Österreichisches Staatsarchiv.

Berlin: Erich Schmidt Verlag, 2008 -

In German

Set in approx. 20 volumes

The Reichshofrat was one of the most prominent European supreme courts of its time and one of the most important institutions of the Holy Roman Empire during the early modern period. Its extensive files give a widespread insight into the courts’ duties, responsibilities and rulings from highly political conflicts to everyday private disputes.

The new title will for the first time make these files accessible to all interested, especially in the field of history of law and constitutional law, but also the humanities and cultural history.

Publication of the Akten des Kaiserlichen Reichshofrats is planned as a long-term project that will open a large part of its files from the 16th and 17th century to the greater public. Overall, more than 20,000 instances will be documented and described at length.
