As Federal Republic of Germany's first federal president, Theodor Heuss (1884-1963) had a lasting influence upon the office of President of the Republic. He is not only considered one of the founders of democracy in Germany, but also one of the "fathers of the constitution".
Through his various activities, the democrat Heuss amassed an extensive legacy of speeches, letters and writings on numerous issues of contemporary relevance. In the Stuttgart edition, the largest part of Theodor Heuss' previously unpublished writings are published for the first time covering speeches, letters and writings from the period of around 1892 to 1963.
